The planet will rid itself of the pest humanity. To what degree is yet unknown. But we have many examples of our own extermination of other mammals to know how it works. We will have to use this knowledge and how we can get ahead of it to survive. If there even is a chance we can.
Well, at the same time, a lot of the worst abuses are the most recent. Take plastic. It wasn’t that long ago that we lived without it. I remember being impressed by plastic in the ‘70s. Things were made of all kinds of different materials back then. We’ve been conditioned to believe we need cheap shit made elsewhere to live. We don’t. We can return to simpler means one household at a time, and I believe we’ll be saved to the extent we individually embrace it. I have children. I have to believe this.
Every other week a friend or colleague tells me they are worried about climate change, we really need to … then they tell me about their vacation in Australia, Japan, you name it. And I live like everyone else. It does feel like we are sitting on a rocket heading for a wall and I just wake up every day grateful for another day.
